We introduce ourselves
Lambrusco wines have been an integral part of the Modenese
landscape for centuries. They yield a wine that is generous
and genuine, like the people who live in this area, with a
unique natural feature: springtime refermentation. Although
records of the Vitis labrusca (a wild vine) date back to Roman
times, it was only in the 19th century that certain strains
became predominant, assuming a specific character thanks to
their natural qualities and to human effort and hard work.
Eventually, three similar yet distinctive wines came to be
codified.
In the province of Modena these are the Lambrusco
di Sorbara, the Lambrusco
Grasparossa di Castelvetro and Lambrusco
Salamino di Santa Croce. They are all modern wines
of outstanding characteristics: a sparkling and evanescent
froth, an intense, lasting scent and a rich taste, enhanced
by a good level of acidity that is balanced by the right amounts
of sugars in the demisec and amabile versions. Refreshing
and pleasant to drink, it adapts equally to the traditional
foods of the region as well as many international dishes.
They are well-rounded wines and, served cool, are appropriate
to many occasions as is proven by their success in Italy and
throughout the world. In 1970, the Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco
Grasparossa di Castelvetro and Lambrusco Salamino di Santa
Croce all obtained the DOC label
and, since then, the commitment and effort of producers and
the Consortium have achieved further improvements in quality,
while making sure that the traditions of excellence are maintained.
